A note from your Township Supervisor

After a very trying winter we are now enjoying a bit of spring that we so deserve. We at the Township enjoyed receiving thousands of books for our "in house" library. The response from the community has been phenomenal. When we started this project no one had a clue as to how well received it would be. In March, we received over 90 boxes of books from the Elk Grove Village Friends of the Library used book sale. That coupled with donations from families and individuals made for a wonderful winter season. The "in house" library will be able to continue as long as your donations continue.

Stop in and choose a book or two for your summer reading!

Elk Grove Township has started a unique program for our Township residents. What began out of necessity to help our unincorporated residents who were unable to have full library privileges, resulted in a one of a kind program.
With a simple request to our local residents to donate books, developed into a kind of "library" if you will. Residents of the Township are able to take books home to read and return or they may keep the books! This allows our citizens access to reading materials they otherwise would not have.
To date we have collected over 100 boxes of new and gently used books. Our collection includes fiction, non fiction, biography's, and children's books. For further information or to donate books please call the Township at 847-437-0300.

Did you know?
Few people know, but many people ask about the Elk Grove Cemetery. Located just south east of the 90 expressway and Arlington Heights Road, it is one acre in size and has a history all its own. The Elk Grove Cemetery opened in 1856 and has been the resting place for many ever since. The cemetery land was originally owned by the Paige Family and was donated to a private association. Today it has a separate board that over sees the day to day operations.
Gravestone carry the names of many local families who were among the first to settle in the Township. Names like Busse, Cosman, Goebbert, Landmeier, Page, Sharringhausen, and Wiebe. There are two Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the cemetery. When the cemetery was laid out there were about 450 plots available. Today there are approximately 250 people buried there.
